Why Can't I Approve Cards? Understanding Your Card Approval Limit
Learn why you may be unable to approve a card request even with approver permissions, and how an admin updates your card approval limit.
If you have approver permissions but still can't approve a card request, the most common reason is your card approval limit. This is a separate setting from your permission to approve, and if a request is above your limit, the system will not let you approve it.
What the card approval limit isYour card approval limit is the maximum dollar amount you are allowed to approve for another user. It works independently of three other things people often confuse it with:
- Approver permission turns on your ability to approve at all. You can have this switched on and still be blocked by a low approval limit.
- Card spending limit is the amount a cardholder can spend on a specific card. It does not control approvals.
- Company spending limit is your organization's overall limit. It is set during underwriting and is unrelated to individual approval authority.
So if your approval limit is set to $500 and you try to approve a card request for $2,000, the approval will not go through, even though you are listed as an approver.
How an admin updates a card approval limitAn admin can change the approval limit for any user on the account in a few steps:
- Go to Settings, then Manage Users.
- Click the three dots next to the user's name.
- Select Manage Approvers.
- Enter the new card approval limit in the pop-up.
- Click Save.
The change takes effect immediately. There is no need to log out or refresh your session before trying to approve again.
Updating your own limitFor security, an admin cannot change their own card approval limit. If you need your own limit raised, a second admin on the account has to make the edit. If your organization has only one admin, contact KleerCard support and we can help.
